Barton Flats is a plain located in the San Bernardino National Forest on San Gorgonio Mountain. The nearest major town is Big Bear Lake, California.〔http://aroundguides.com/22998376 〕 A Lake Fire began at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday the 17th of June, 2015 behind Camp de Benneville Pines in the Jenks Lake area of Barton Flats. The cause is still unknown. Since then, the flames have been traveling east and southeast, blackening heavily forested mountainsides that haven’t burned in over a century. As of this writing, (June 22, 2015) the fire has been burning 6 days, and is only 19% contained. The surrounding Mojave desert was filled with ash and smoke so thick, the Sun couldn't break through for 3 days. Now in day number eight (June 25, 2015), the fire has increased, and is only 17% contained. Barton Flats is the southern gateway to Big Bear Lake, California via highway 38 from the 10 freeway. As of June 22, 2015, highway 38 still remains closed due to the effects of the Barton Flats fire. On the 9th day of the Barton Flats fire, 06-27-15, nature has stepped in and helped the firefighter's put out this nine day blaze, by raining on what was left of this remaining smoldering fire.
